Prop. 13 as Redistribution of Wealth

There is a claim that a parcel tax is redistribution of wealth.
In California, a far greater redistribution is caused by Proposition13 and its very great disparity in taxation rates. Those who are paying very little are still receiving full benefits and services at the local level. They are not paying their fair share, yet keep on demanding that others provide them with government services and benefits. This is happening even though the recipients are often better off financially than those who are paying the unfair and unequal taxation.

Cutting Back on Earmarks

To cut back on congressional earmarks, special funding requests should be allowed for only those States and congressional districts that send more money to Washington than they receive.

Freedom Vs. Security

On our great patriotic holiday, the 4th of July, we shall hear fervent oratory about the sacrifices made in the War of Independence. The heroes of Valley Forge, with their privations and ultimate sacrifice, will be cited for how they gave everything so that we might have liberty.

After the fireworks, we shall return to our everyday practice of trading our constitutional freedoms for ‘security’. Perceived outside threats will cause us to capitulate to fear. The real threat is internal, as we sacrifice our freedom and selfhood.

In the end, those who wish to harm us will have won. We will have destroyed ourselves.
